Philosophy

Here at the Boulder Hut, we believe that a week in the mountains backcountry skiing is about the entire experience. From incredible skiing, exceptional family style dining, and camaraderie while on the up-track, ridge walks, and peak bagging…Sarah and I strive to offer the complete package! You set your pace whether it be relaxed or givin’ er.

Stellar Tree Skiing
The Purcell Mountains offer some of the best tree skiing in BC. When weather won’t let you see your ski tips in the alpine, we head for the trees. We have great terrain for storm days.  Explore steep tree runs on Rocky II, the Roll and Good Omens or spend the day charging the Lakes District. We have several options to ski the trees for a full day of turns on many aspects and pitches. When weather breaks, we head to our alpine bowls and cirques to deliver the big mountain experience. Whatever the weather brings, we have plenty of challenging terrain to offer.

A Unique Family Environment

Experience your backcountry skiing adventure in a relaxed family environment. My wife and I, with our two kids, spend the entire winter with our guests. ACMG certified guides, including myself, will escort you through the complicated, pristine Southern Purcell Mountains. We will take you to skiing locations few have been for a day of breathtaking adventure. With six years under our belt of spending winters and skiing at the Boulder Hut, we are continually amazed at the quality and number of options we can offer our guests.

With yearly upgrades and improvements, we make sure your stay at the lodge is not only a true backcountry experience but also a comfortable one. It’s been a sincere pleasure having the Boulder Hut in our lives. One of the many benefits of operating this piece of paradise is sharing it with folks who want to enjoy an authentic backcountry experience.

Satisfaction in Achieving New Heights

We take great pleasure in leaving our guests with a sense of accomplishment. Accomplishment from achieving heights they didn’t know…or simply forgot…they could reach. We climb and ski thousands of vertical feet each day. We spend much of the day taking deep breaths of alpine air. After taking in vast mountain landscapes, smiling comes easily. You will be laughing your way to the outdoor shower and wood fired hot tub. Splitting kindling and stoking fires are all part of a week that leaves you with a newfound appreciation for an old perspective.

Old School Backcountry Skiing

The historic Boulder and Ptarmigan Huts hold a unique place in the history of Backcountry lodges in British Columbia. These Huts are some of the original post-WWII privately held ski lodges in the province. With this history come fascinating stories about founders Art Twomey and Margie Jamieson’s conservation efforts. Their involvement was critical in forming The Purcell Wilderness Conservancy, nearly 500,000 acres of protected land bordering our ski tenure. Old school, clean and simple accommodations, and epic skiing adventures for the backcountry purist at heart!
